恐れながら口上書をもって願い上げ奉る件
私の息子与兵衛の件につきまして、去る二月中に江戸神田三河町四丁目の桔梗屋源次郎方へ丁稚奉公をお願いいたし、ご許可をいただいて参りましたところ、その後藤沢郷野笹村の郷歩（村役人）の奉公を依頼され、同人の妻には申し聞かせておいたということで出立いたしましたが、私には何の相談もございませんでした。そのため郷歩のお願いを申請しておらず、重々恐れ入っております。何卒ご慈悲をもって、丁稚奉公のお願いを取り下げ、郷歩のお願いをご許可くださいますようお願い申し上げます。
右の趣旨につき、ご慈悲をもってお願い申し上げます通りにお取り計らいいただけましたら、ありがたく存じます。以上

Regarding my son Yohei, in the second month past, I petitioned for him to serve as an apprentice at Kikyoya Genjiro's establishment in Kanda Mikawa-cho 4-chome, Edo, and received approval. However, afterward he was asked to serve as a village clerk (gōbu) in Nozasa Village, Fujisawa district. His wife was apparently informed of this, and he departed without consulting me. Therefore, I failed to submit the proper petition for the village clerk position, and I am deeply mortified by this oversight. I humbly request your mercy in withdrawing the apprentice petition and granting approval for the village clerk petition.
Regarding the above matter, I respectfully request your merciful consideration as petitioned. If you would graciously grant this request, I would be most grateful. The above.
