八月五日、御役所にて仰せ出され候。
関所の通し方の儀、前々より御規定候趣もこれあり候のところ、このたび御変革仰せ出され候条、来る八月朔日より別紙の通りに相心得べく候。これまで御留守居にて取り扱い候廉も、以来はすべて関所掛御目付が取り扱うべき筈に候。
右の趣、万石以上・以下の面々へ、残らず漏れなく相触れるべく候。

On the fifth day of the eighth month [August 5], the following was proclaimed at the magistrate's office:
Regarding the method of passage through the checkpoint (sekisho): whereas regulations have previously been established concerning this matter, it is hereby proclaimed that a revision shall now be implemented. Accordingly, from the first day of the coming eighth month [August 1], [all parties] are to conduct themselves in accordance with the attached separate document. Furthermore, matters that had until now been handled by the resident official (rusui) shall henceforth be handled entirely by the checkpoint inspector (sekisho-gakari metsuke).
The above is to be communicated, without exception, to all persons of ten thousand koku or above and below [i.e., to lords and retainers of all ranks].
