乍恐以書付奉願上候御事
私儀不調法者御座候処文政六未年不存寄
裏御役被 仰付難有仕合奉存候天保九戌年
表御役儀被 仰付重畳難有仕合奉存相勤
罷在候所去る慶応元丑年年来実体相
勤候に付格別之以 御慈悲羽織着用御免
被成下忰兼太郎儀不存寄裏御役見習
被 仰付誠身ニ余り重々冥加至極難有
仕合奉存候然る上は及出力候程は出精仕相勤
度心願に奉存候所当春中ゟ病気に付種々
療用仕候得共此節大病罷成此上取続も
難計奉存候間何卒以 御慈悲御役儀御赦免
被成下置候様奉願上候

恐れながら書付をもって願い上げ奉る件
私は不調法者でございますが、文政6年（1823年）未年に思いがけず裏御役（裏方の役職）を仰せ付けられ、ありがたい仕合わせと存じております。天保9年（1838年）戌年には表御役（表方の役職）を仰せ付けられ、重ね重ねありがたい仕合わせと存じ、相勤めて参りました。去る慶応元年（1865年）丑年、年来実直に勤めて参りましたことにより、格別のご慈悲をもって羽織着用をお許しいただき、息子の兼太郎も思いがけず裏御役見習いを仰せ付けられ、誠に身に余る重々の冥加で、この上なくありがたい仕合わせと存じております。
このような上は、力の及ぶ限り出精して相勤めたいと心願しておりましたところ、当春中より病気となり、種々療養いたしましたが、この節大病となり、この上取り続きも計り難く存じます間、何卒ご慈悲をもって御役儀をお赦免くださいますよう願い上げ奉ります。

Respectfully submitting this petition with humble deference
I am an incompetent person, but in the 6th year of Bunsei (1823), the year of the Sheep, I was unexpectedly appointed to a rear administrative position (ura-oyaku), which I consider a most grateful fortune. In the 9th year of Tenpō (1838), the year of the Dog, I was appointed to a front administrative position (omote-oyaku), which I consider a doubly grateful fortune, and I have been serving in this capacity. In the 1st year of Keio (1865), the year of the Ox, due to my years of faithful service, through special benevolence I was granted permission to wear a haori (formal jacket), and my son Kanetarō was unexpectedly appointed as an apprentice to a rear administrative position - truly an overwhelming blessing and an extremely grateful fortune.
Under such circumstances, I had intended to serve with utmost diligence to the extent of my abilities. However, since this spring I have been ill, and despite various treatments, I have now fallen seriously ill. As I cannot foresee recovery going forward, I humbly petition that through your benevolence, I may be pardoned from my official duties.
