此所の海に釣し大なる比目魚得給ひ夷
等に教曰此魚は神也我是を山に祭ん
此後此山のみ比目魚の形したる残雪有
べし其時汝等此海に漁せは多く比目魚を
得て糧と成んと云給ひしに今に至りて
神の言の如し故に旧ウアシシヤマンヘと云
しを転訛して今ヲヤマンヘといふウアシ
は雪の称《右線：シ》ヤマンヘは比目魚の訓也

コーラツフ（地名）の首長はヤシマという。昔、神がこの地においでになり、この海で釣りをされて大きなカレイ（比目魚）を得られた。そして夷（アイヌの人々）に教えて言われるには、「この魚は神聖なものである。私はこれを山に祀ろう。この後、この山にだけカレイの形をした残雪が現れるだろう。その時、汝らがこの海で漁をすれば、多くのカレイを得て、食糧とすることができるだろう」とおっしゃった。今に至るまで、神のお言葉の通りである。それゆえ、もとは「ウアシシヤマンヘ」と言っていたのが転訛して、今では「ヲヤマンヘ」という。「ウアシ」は雪のことを指し、「ヤマンヘ」はカレイ（比目魚）を意味する言葉である。

## Map of Oshamambe
The chief of Kōratsufu (place name) is called Yashima. Long ago, a deity visited this place and caught a large flatfish (halibut/flounder) while fishing in this sea. The deity taught the Ezo (Ainu people), saying: "This fish is sacred. I shall enshrine it on this mountain. After this, only on this mountain will there remain snow in the shape of a flatfish. When you see this, if you fish in this sea, you shall obtain many flatfish to use as food." Even to this day, things are exactly as the deity foretold. For this reason, what was originally called "Uashishyamanhe" has been corrupted in pronunciation over time and is now called "Oyamanhe." "Uashi" means snow, and "Yamanhe" means flatfish.
