**イトヒリカネカツプ（図あり）**

奥蝦夷地のどこにでもいる。大きさは家鴨（アヒル）ほどである。「イト」とは嘴（くちばし）の称であり、「ヒルカ」とは「善い・良い」という意味の語である。「ネカツプ」は鳥の通称であり、「チコプカ」は地名である。群島にわたると、木の生えていない島がある。その場所でこの鳥を捕らえ、骨を焼き、肉を煮て食べると言う。

**Ito-hirika-nekatsup (with illustration)**

This bird is found throughout the inner Ezo lands. Its size is comparable to that of a domestic duck (*ie-gamo*). "*Ito*" refers to the name for its beak; "*hiruka*" is a word meaning "good" or "fine"; and "*nekatsup*" is the general term for bird. "*Chikopka*" is a place name. When one crosses over to the island chain, there are islands where no trees grow. It is said that on these islands, this bird is caught, its bones are roasted, and its meat is boiled and eaten.
