乍恐以口上書奉願上候御事
私儀上島村竹十与申者内弟子ニ仕鍛冶職為習置候所
年季明無拠暇差遣申候此上自分ニ相成御水役相勤職
分為仕度奉願上候何卒以 御慈悲奉願上候通被

右伝重奉願上候通少茂相違無御坐候何卒以慈

恐れながら口上書をもって願い上げ奉る件について
私は上島村の竹十という者を内弟子として鍛冶職を習わせておりましたところ、年季が明け、やむなく暇を差し遣わし申しました。この上は自分の身となり、御水役を勤め、職分をいたしたく願い上げ奉ります。何卒御慈悲をもって願い上げ候通り仰せ付けて下され置かれましたら、ありがたき幸せに存じ奉ります。伝十印
右の伝重が願い上げ候通り、少しも相違はございません。何卒慈悲をもって願いの通り仰せ付けて下され置かれましたら、私共一同ありがたき幸せに存じ奉ります。

I have been training one Taketō from Kamishima Village as an apprentice in the blacksmith trade. His term of service has now ended and I have unavoidably released him. Henceforth, he wishes to become independent, serve as a water official (mizuyaku), and practice his trade, for which I humbly petition. I would be most grateful if you would graciously approve this petition as requested. Dentō (seal)
