乍恐以口上書奉奉願上候御事
横町穀屋新七奉願上只今迠炭商仕罷在候所
近年不勝手罷成炭商相止申度ニ付此度私方江
引請炭商仕御城下外所々江売出申度奉願存候
何卒鉾持口嶋畑口炭御改所御通被成下置
御改所以員数御運上御上納仕度奉存候

恐れながら口上書をもって願い上げ奉る件
横町穀屋新七が願い上げたことですが、今まで炭商売をいたしておりましたところ、近年商売がうまくいかなくなり、炭商売をやめたいとのことで、この度私のところへ引き受けて炭商売をし、御城下や他の場所へ売り出したく願い存じます。何卒鉾持口・嶋畑口の炭御改所をお通し下さり、御改所にて員数・御運上を御上納いたしたく存じます。これにより願い上げ奉ります。
右の趣、御慈悲をもって願い上げ候通り仰せ付けて下され置かれましたら、ありがたき幸せに存じ奉ります。以上

Regarding the petition submitted by Shinhichi of Kokoya (grain shop) on Yoko-machi: He has been conducting charcoal business until now, but in recent years his business has not been going well and he wishes to cease the charcoal trade. Therefore, I would like to take over this business and sell charcoal in the castle town and other locations. I humbly request that you grant passage through the charcoal inspection stations at Hokomochiguchi and Shimahataguchi, and I wish to submit the required quantities and taxes to the inspection stations. Therefore I humbly petition.
I would be most grateful if you would graciously grant my petition as requested. That is all.
